It is the luxury of ease, of being surrounded by friends, of forgetting time, of anticipation and comfort.

Overview

about

Vera Grillmaier ceramics embody a dialogue between tradition and experimentation, design and intuition. Her pieces are grounded in technical knowledge, yet intuition plays a decisive role in shaping each form. Each series is carefully designed, but each object retains individuality in its details through the process of making as a reminder that in craft, no two pieces are ever identical. Like a summer evening by the lake, Vera Grillmaier ceramics capture ease, warmth, and the beauty of simplicity. The result are pieces that remain clear in form yet distinct in character.

Collar Piece

The Collar Pieces are shaped on the potter’s wheel of fine English porcelain within an interplay between tradition and experimentation. While the series follows a clear design language, the character of each vase emerges through the making itself: intuition defines the final form, giving every piece a unique character. Although positioned as a counterpoint to minimalism, the vases have a soft elegance and a timeless clarity. Each object captures a moment within an ongoing process, shaped by the interplay of technical knowledge and intuitive craft. Special thanks to Katharina Husslein for believing in the Collar Pieces from the beginning and challenging me to develop the design.

Porcelain Cup – Muschelverkäuferin

Porcelain Cup – Muschelverkäuferin

The motif of the shell seller (Muschelverkäuferin) traces back to a porcelain figure that formed part of the so-called Kaufruf representations, used as table ornaments during the Rococo period (from 1745 onward). The aristocratic milieu valued the allure of the exotic and regarded itinerant vendors as symbols of a natural, unadorned way of life. The original porcelain figure is on view in the permanent exhibition of the Wien Museum.

For this cup, Vera Grillmaier developed the concept in reference to this exhibition context. Each piece is handcrafted in porcelain and hand-painted by Vera Grillmaier.

Matcha Bowls

Matcha Bowls

Commissioned by the tea specialists of Cha No Ma, Vera Grillmaier developed a series of Matcha bowls in close dialogue with the team’s expertise, sensory knowledge, and dedication to tea culture. The design process centred on how the bowl rests in both hands, how the lip meets the rim, and how subtle variations shape the drinking experience. Each piece is crafted as an individual vessel, reflecting the nuanced input of Cha No Ma’s tea experts.
